Nancy Steadman Martin is a senior partner at the law firm of Martin Melody, L.L.C., in Little Silver, New Jersey. She specializes in workers’ compensation claims and employment matters. These employment matters include discrimination cases, sexual harassment issues, and FMLA claims. Ms. Martin has presented seminars on sexual harassment and discrimination to various groups and she is a member of the employment law committee of the Monmouth County Bar Association.
Nancy began her legal career as a judicial clerk, to the Honorable Thomas F. Shebell, of the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division. After her clerkship, she was a partner at the Law Firm of Linda B. Kenney, specializing in employment cases, and then she took over the practice with Eugene J. Melody in 2004. Since that time, the practice has become more focused on workers’ compensation matters for injured employees, in addition to the employment matters.
In addition, Nancy is amongst an elite group of people who completed a swim across the English Channel. She did this swim in a time of eleven hours and 21 minutes and that time is still the world record for women who are 50 years old and older. Nancy is also one of a very few swimmers, who completed the “Triple Crown” – swimming the English Channel, the Catalina Channel, and Manhattan Island. Nancy is also an All-American Masters Swimmer in her age group. An All-American status is given to a swimmer who has the fastest time in a particular event. Nancy has earned this title numerous times in various events. Nancy was also a world record holder, in her age group in the 200 meter backstroke and the 1500 meter freestyle. She is the current National Record Holder in her age group in the 1650 yards freestyle with a record she set in July 2021.
Nancy enjoys helping employees in all aspects of their employment. Nancy is dedicated to helping those who are injured so that they receive the benefits to which they are entitled. Nancy has also advised clients regarding the classification of employees, and in understanding new regulations and laws that are enacted. She has prepared pleadings, negotiated settlements, and appeared in court on behalf of numerous clients on a variety of workplace issues. She has also represented clients in depositions, at court hearings and in mediations.
